Hazard on his dismissal: “The decision was easy”

It’s early October when ex-Chelsea star Eden Hazard announces his immediate retirement from professional football. At only 32 years old. It is the quiet and early departure of one of the most talented footballers of his time. But since moving to Real Madrid four years ago, he has been consistently plagued by injuries, making just 76 appearances for Los Blancos.

In an interview with the Belgian daily L’Avenir, he openly says that he has lost his joy in football. Therefore, there was no alternative to the decision. “I didn’t want to play somewhere because of the money. It was the best solution,” says the Belgian.

Didn’t regret it for a second

He says: “I stopped enjoying training and playing. The decision was easy.” He has not missed football since. He is at peace with himself. “I have so much to do outside of football that I was able to make a calm decision,” says Hazard.

And what is life like as an early retiree? In an interview with “TNT Sports” he said: “It’s perfect, it’s perfect. I enjoy life and the family with the children.” So he can do what he wants.

Hazard started his career at club level in France with Lille in 2007. Five years later, he moved to Chelsea, where he amassed 192 points in 352 games and enjoyed his most successful spell before finally beginning his unhappy spell in Madrid in 2019. He scored 33 goals in 126 games for the Belgian national team.
