It looks like amateur football. On Sunday afternoon the players drive to the sports field in their private cars. But on October 1, that is exactly what happens in professional football. It is the Schaffhausen players who come to the Esp stadium in their car, draw 1-1 with FC Baden and drive back home.
A professional team without a team bus, but with a route like in the 5th class? Word soon spread that the FCS might not have been able to pay the bus company.
The club and the car company from Braunau TG resolutely reject this to Blick. “The team bus had to be taken to the workshop due to engine damage,” they say. The replacement bus had to transport more orders than planned, after which a driver was also unavailable. That’s why we decided to travel by private car.
But why do rumors immediately arise about the financial situation if the FCS team bus does not stop? Because lately there have been more and more indications that Schaffhausen has to turn over every franc.
There is striker Helios Sessolo (30), who publicly said he had to reject an offer from Schaffhausen: “It was too little to live on.” Instead he went to Thun, the first division team.
There’s the stadium thing. After a major dispute with the previous owners, the arena only came under club ownership in 2021. But now Schaffhausen wants to sell his stadium again. According to information from Blick, it was offered to a German sports agency, but they turned it down.
FCS chairman Roland Klein says about the sale rumors, which also affect the club itself: “Since the takeover, there have been several interested parties, who are of course also being investigated. However, there is no news about that.”
New to the stadium is the name, which has been called ‘Berformance Arena’ since this season. This company of the same name has also been the main sponsor since the summer and, according to boss Christian Lux, is an international “sales service provider for future digital technologies”.
Blick reached the German on the phone in Dubai. Lux describes that contact with the FCS was not established via ex-Lucerne professional Simon Grether (31), who works at Berformance as ‘Chief Sales Officer Switzerland’ at the Zurich branch.
The request for FCS involvement came from the network around national coach and ex-FCS coach Murat Yakin. “It was a hidden cry for help,” says Lux, “without our involvement, the FCS would not have been able to start the new season.” In plain language: the new partner saved Schaffhausen from acute misery.
But with what money? What the main FCS partner does remains a mystery from the outside. Lux: “We do not manufacture products, we are active in marketing and brokerage. We receive commissions for our acquisitions.” It is mainly about the IT industry, Bitcoins and blockchain, software and data centers in Scandinavia.
Well then. But Lux wants to have such a large network that he wants to be more than just the main sponsor at FCS. “For example, we want to digitize the stadium, design a new club website, organize events or, if necessary at the moment, help find a new athletics trainer.”
Wanting to have a say, a Challenge League club was more attractive to him than a top Super League club, where structures are rigid. The discussions with the FCZ were therefore not continued further. Meanwhile, a question to FCZ boss Ancillo Canepa reveals that he does not know of any company called Berformance.
Back to FCS. A recently published study by “Schaffhauser AZ” about Berformance created additional excitement. Content? It concerns promises of absurdly high returns and a conclusion from the Consumer Protection Foundation: “We advise those affected to report the companies involved to the banking supervisor Finma and the police.”
Oops. Lux responds to the criticism: “That was misrepresented. There is a lot of jealousy and ignorance about our company. But we certainly want to be more transparent in the future.” He is already very open about his goals in the FCS: “In five years we want to be in the Super League.”
