At the World Championships in Antwerp (Belgium), she performed the most difficult jump in women’s gymnastics in qualifying with the Yurtschenko, followed by a double backflip. For her almost perfect performance, Biles receives 15,266 points. And since no other athlete has performed this jump before at an international competition, it will bear her name in the future. The World Gymnastics Federation includes him in the scoring guidelines as “Biles II”.

Special relationship with Antwerp

Nothing new for the four-time Olympic champion. In 2018 she created a jump that bears her name. Still, this should be mostly for Biles now. Because it has a special history that connects it with Antwerp. Ten years ago she competed in her first world championships in the Belgian port city, where she won gold on floor and all-round, silver on vault and bronze on balance beam.

Now she returns to international action after a two-year hiatus. And becomes the first American gymnast to participate in a world championship for the sixth time. She was expected to present the ‘Biles II’, which she first showed at a competition in Indianapolis in the spring of 2021, on the world stage at the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo (Japan). But it didn’t come to that. She qualified for all six finals, but withdrew in the middle of the team competition. Due to a mental block, Biles did not compete and skipped all finals except the balance beam, where she won bronze.

Now she is finally back. And not only shows that she has overcome her mental problems, but also that she has not forgotten anything about gymnastics. (beer)
