Paris, here we come!: Gymnasts achieve Olympic hat trick

Even before the final group of the team qualification on Sunday, it was clear: the STV team can no longer be pushed out of one of the top twelve places and thus achieve the Olympic hat trick. The Swiss gymnasts have already competed at Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2021, where they achieved an excellent 6th place in the team final in Japan two years ago.

The team of the two head coaches Claudio Capelli and Laurent Guelzec showed excellent tactical competition in Antwerp. Ultimately, no falls were counted for Noe Seifert, Florian Langenegger, Christian Baumann, Taha Serhani and Luca Giubellini. With 248,192 points, Switzerland is even a few hundredths ahead of China, the 2022 team world champion in Liverpool. Spain, Turkey, the Netherlands, Ukraine and Brazil also lag behind the STV team.

The only previous Olympic participant in Antwerp is Christian Baumann (28), who is making his comeback on the big stage after almost two years and injuries to his elbow and wrist. And the veteran justifies his nomination with a strong program. Especially on the pommel horse, the only piece of equipment on which the Swiss are weak, he withstands the pressure of the last gymnast and brings a strong mark to the score.

Team leader Noe Seifert (25) achieved 82,464 points in the all-round competition and will therefore qualify for the final of the best 24. Florian Langenegger (20), the second Swiss to practice all six gymnastics equipment, also sees his chances. The apparatus finals in the weekend take place without the participation of STV.
