“It was frustration”: Marc Marchon fangs during the derby brawl

Initially, the derby emotions are limited to celebrating the goals of the ZSC Lions. But then it suddenly gets hot. There are several skirmishes and the referees sometimes lose control.

There are two Kloteners who stir up emotions and give vent to their frustration: top scorer Miro Aaltonen, who plays the two-hander and then hits his Finnish compatriot Mikko Lehtonen with two cross-checks, and of course Marc Marchon.

Even before things escalate, he’s involved in skirmishes twice, showing little stability when Chris Baltisberger pushes him. And there’s the scene where he attacks Justin Sigrist shortly after the fifth ZSC goal. He doesn’t care that the 4-0 goalscorer doesn’t actually want to get into a fight. He beats him several times before the ZSC attacker defends himself. The aggressor and his victim must take an early shower with the same punishment.

On the way to the dressing room, Marchon also gets into an argument with the ZSC fans. He nods at them and wipes off his gloves as he is insulted and insulted. “Those were still the emotions after the little fight,” he says.

“You can see who wants to fight and who doesn’t.”

The 28-year-old had already made a name for himself last season as a provocateur and fang in the competition, which already earned him a contract with SC Bern for next season.

“We actually wanted to introduce emotions from the start. But we didn’t really get into the game,” Marchon said. And about the fight he says: “It was frustration. Then this happens.” He noticed that Sigrist was not prepared to fight at all: “Yes, that’s why it was a bit one-sided.”

ZSC aggressive leader Chris Baltisberger says about his teammate Sigrist: “He stuck to his guns. The referees could have just stopped the fight. You can see who wants to fight and who doesn’t.”

About the derby skirmishes, he says: “That’s normal. They tried to use emotions to keep us away from the game. But we put up a good fight.” Regarding the fact that there will be some settlements, Baltisberger says: “We have to learn to deal with such situations better. If we keep playing like this, many more teams will try to take us out of the game with destructive actions.” ZSC has won seven out of eight matches so far and is at the top of the table.
