“If wage competition becomes more intense, this will not lead to more people and more employment,” Moser said in an interview with the “Neue Zürcher Zeitung” published on Saturday.
In addition to wages, companies should consider how they can remain attractive to new and existing employees. Better working conditions and additional employment conditions are conceivable. Moser also mentioned affordable childcare places for working parents. Companies should offer new models, such as short-time work for older employees.
Switzerland is dependent on workers from abroad, says Moser. Moser refuted the accusation that immigration was too cheap for employers by saying that the domestic population was not simply unemployed and available. “We don’t bring in foreigners because we don’t want to invest in the local population.” There are actually too few domestic workers who have already been trained or are still being trained.
But Switzerland cannot turn the migration screw as it pleases either. Neighboring countries faced similar problems. “Germany, France and Italy will not stand by and take away workers with higher wages,” Moser said. (SDA)
