Swiss Challenge in Alsace: Not a top place, but a lot of hope for Swiss golf

At the Challenge Tour tournament, which is endowed with 250,000 euros and is the second highest circuit in Europe, the young Zurich professional Ronan Kleu and the Thurgau Benjamin Rusch took 25th place with seven strokes under par each. At the top – the Swede Adam Blomme defeated his compatriot Jesper Svensson on the first hole of a play-off – they lost ten strokes. Cedric Gugler from Basel – he also only became a professional this year – and Robert Foley from Lausanne each need five strokes more than Kleu and Rusch and are in 53rd place.

Ronan Kleu, who only switched from amateurs to professionals this summer, will play in Followsbourg for a top 10 place in the final round. However, he cannot maintain the level he played in the first three rounds, causing him to lose 13 places with a round of 74 (2 over par).

Great potential at Kleu

Kleu clearly has the potential to move on to the major European circuit, the so-called DP World Tour, in one of the next seasons. He ended his time as an amateur with exceptional success, reaching the final of the British Amateur Championship, Europe’s premier amateur championship, and finishing second.

Cedric Gugler, like Ronan Kleu, who is only 23 years old, has similar expectations. Despite his limited experience, he recently reached the two final rounds as an invited player in the high-quality field of the Omega European Masters in Crans-Montana.
