Aargau resident René Stammbach retired after twelve years on the ITF board; he has been vice president for the past eight years. Stammbach announced his retirement in Australia in January. Stammbach’s wish that Switzerland continue to have a seat on the governing body was not fulfilled at the congress in Cancun, Mexico. Ruth Wipfli Steinegger narrowly missed the election.
Stammbach was unanimously elected honorary lifetime vice president in Cancun. The American David Haggerty, who clearly won the election with 318:118 votes against the German challenger Dietloff von Arnim, will remain president of the ITF for another four years. (SDA)
