Formula 1 driver Lance Stroll will not participate in the Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday (from 2 p.m.) after his serious accident in qualifying on Saturday. His team Aston Martin announced this a few hours before the race. Stroll is still feeling the after-effects of the impact, team boss Mike Krack said in a statement: “The top priority now is that he makes a quick and full recovery.”
Stroll lost control of his Aston Martin Mercedes in the final corner of qualifying and crashed into the Tecpro wall at a speed of more than 230 km/h. Fortunately, the Canadian was then able to get out of the vehicle himself.
It is Stroll’s second retirement this season; he also missed the opener in Bahrain after a cycling accident during preparation. Aston Martin only has two-time world champion Fernando Alonso (Spain) at the start in Singapore. (AFP/jsl)
