Real Madrid turned heads with a heartbreaking move from the touchline. The reason for this is Abdul Rahim Awhida (14).
The teenager lost his parents, two brothers and grandmother in the devastating earthquake in Morocco. In an emotional TV interview, Ahwida then spoke about the tragedy and wiped away tears with his Real Madrid jersey. The photos go around the world.
In response to the interview, Real Madrid contacted broadcaster Al-Arabiya and asked for contact details, Sportbild reported citing Spanish media. The contact eventually came about through an uncle. The Royals then offered Awhida to bring him to Spain and include him in their youth academy.
Awhida has now started the journey to the Spanish capital. Once there, he should get the chance to play football at the academy. The club also wants to support him at school.
Awhida is not aiming for a football career. Instead, he works to fulfill his father’s wish and become a doctor or teacher. “I just want to finish school,” he says in the interview. (Gentlemen)
