Samuel Giger (25) is unstoppable. After his victory at the Unspunnen Schwinget, he took the crown at the Swiss National Gymnastics Day.

“I don’t train in national gymnastics as much as I used to,” Giger told Blick before the end of the season about the versatility a national gymnast needs. But there is little to notice.

Top values in pushing and lifting stones

On Saturday in Wigoltingen TG, Giger leaves nothing to be desired. The Thurgauer participates in the disciplines of lifting stones, setting stones, 100 meters running, floor exercises, wrestling and throwing – he skips the high jump and the long jump.

When laying stones he reaches 8.89 meters, further than all competitors in his category. Its 28 stone chips are also a top value. Both results earn him the maximum: 10 points.

Expectation fulfilled over 100 meters

He completed the 100 meters in 12.50 seconds, which earned him 9.5 points. He fully meets his expectations. “It has to be between 12.5 and 13 seconds if you want to be at the front,” he said before the race.

And he also received a 9.5 for the floor exercise. Giger focuses on a minimum of practice, deals with the required difficulties – and benefits from a favorable evaluation.

Vollenweider bent over in the final course

In wrestling there is first a downer when someone is placed. After a win, a top duel follows with Jeremy Vollenweider (25). The person placed there is the preliminary decision for the festival victory.

In the last swing of the swing the opponent is Vollenweider again. And in his third Zwilchhosen appearance, Giger shows no nudity whatsoever. With the first short time he brings his opponent to the ground, with the pressure he achieves victory. And thus the maximum number of points in wrestling: three fights, 30 points.

In the end, Giger has 96.6 points – out of a total of 100. He won by two points over Vollenweider.

So Giger can be carried on his shoulders again and enjoy a nice live prize. The perfect ending to a successful season.

And now? “It’s finally time for vacation.” Giger really deserves it.
