24 races without a win: Ferrari still on course for bankruptcy

1/10
Charles Leclerc for Carlos Sainz: the Ferrari duo has scored 228 points so far in 2023. That is 355 fewer than Red Bull-Honda has.

The Ferrari fans continue to suffer. They once had to wait 21 years for a world title in the Drivers’ Championship (Jody Scheckter in 1979 to Michael Schumacher in 2000). Almost 16 years have passed since Kimi Räikkönen in 2007. And there is no end in sight to the dry spell for the Italians. Certainly until the ‘new’ Formula 1 from 2026, virtually no team will be able to get past Red Bull-Honda. And if so, then Mercedes. In Maranello, the work of a thousand lies and truths for decades, everything has to be right for a world title. But in the end it is always the drivers who have to get the necessary points across the finish line. How long Charles Leclerc (25) and Carlos Sainz (29) actually believe in their chance and carry their morale with them every time in the red cockpit is another matter. Leclerc (“I want to become world champion with Ferrari!”) has known the problem for a long time: “We finally have to improve our car!”

Now 8th place in the World Championship is a must for Alfa-Sauber

How long will Ferrari remain silent? It’s a very legitimate question after 24 races without a win. After 14 races in 2023, we compared new team boss Fred Vasseur (55) with dismissed boss Mattia Binotto (53) and his first 14 races in 2022. The result is brutal: the Frenchman is 228:357 behind in points. And after victories the Italian leads 4:0, after podium finishes he leads 12:4. Yet Binotto had to leave at the end of the season. How long will Vasseur stay in the saddle? He said it after he left Hinwil: “At Ferrari you are only measured by your victories!”

Hot night in Singapore

And now we are at the equator. Singapore’s hot night haunts have been taking place here since 2008. It was only canceled in 2020/21 due to Corona. Temperatures around 30 degrees, high humidity and rain showers accompany the circus every year. And what was Ferrari doing there? There were three victories: Alonso in 2010 and Vettel in 2015/19. The start of 2017 is unforgettable, when the Ferrari duo Vettel and Räikkönen crashed – and dragged Verstappen into misery. In 2022, Pérez won, Alfa-Sauber remained without points.

New Hungarian Cup for Verstappen

What’s going on there? Red Bull is on the hunt for Norris (24, McLaren), who is still without a win. Verstappen would also like to have him as a teammate. The two are friends – and the Brit replaced Max’s €40,000 Hungarian Cup, which fell apart due to Norris being on the podium. Interestingly, Pérez now said, “I am looking for alternatives for the future.” Does he suspect something?
