Another two-thirds could not be achieved: Migros delegates rejected downsizing the administration

Migros announced on Saturday that the required two-thirds majority could not be achieved.

Migros said it wanted to make its management “simpler and more efficient” by downsizing and changing its composition. The statement stated that this idea would be brought up again at the next delegate meeting in November.

In the spring, Migros management announced a radical change in its organization. He informed delegates about these plans at the delegate meeting held on Saturday. Migros management wants, among other things, to centralize its supermarket business, previously managed by individual regional cooperatives, into the company called Supermarket AG under the umbrella of MGB.

Within the scope of the restructuring, the previous number of members of the MGB management, that is, the Migros board of directors, would be reduced from 23 to 14. Cooperatives newly represented in Supermarket AG should be excluded from the MGB.

This means that only five regional companies will be represented in the MGB management instead of the previous ten: Neuchâtel-Fribourg, Basel, Vaud, Geneva and, above all, the powerful Zurich cooperative with by far the highest turnover.

But apparently the delegates did not agree with this idea. This is a defeat for Migros Chairman Ursula Nold and MGB boss Mario Irminger, who made their plans public in June.

But Nold is hopeful in his statement: “It was felt that the delegates had a positive attitude towards the reorganization of the supermarket business. This was underlined by numerous requests to speak on the subject,” the message reads. (SDA)
