Great prospects in women’s cycling: the Tour de France is coming.
Simon StromerReporter & Desk Sports

The Tour de France for women starts on Sunday at a circuit in Clermont-Ferrand. While the men’s tour took place for the 110th time this year, it is the second edition in this form for the women. Earlier matches took place, but these were always cancelled.

After a start in the heart of France, the tour heads south, where the mountain finish on the Col du Tourmalet at 2110 meters above sea level is the first mountain stage on the programme. Annemiek van Vleuten (40) won the first edition and will be there for the last time this year.

Three Swiss women will line up: Marlen Reusser (31, SD Worx), Elise Chabbey (30, Canyon/Sram) and Elena Hartmann (32, Israel-PT-Roland). Reusser enters the race as the brand new winner of the Tour de Suisse and Swiss champion.

The time trial is your chance

But the Emmentaler says: “The agreement with my team was that I could bet on the Tour de Suisse and in return support my teammate Demi Vollering in the Tour de France. Moreover, with Lorena Wiebes, we have the best sprinter in the world in the team.”

Emergency services are the order of the day for the best Swiss woman. But there is one possibility: next Sunday the final individual time trial in Pau. “I can look at myself there,” says Reusser.
