Francisco Rodriguez (27), midfielder at FC Winterthur, has his own podcast. It’s called, after his nickname Cico, “Cic-off” and will appear every two months for the time being. Together with SRF sports reporter Sven Dalla Palma, the younger brother of ex-pro Roberto (32) and Nati star Ricardo Rodriguez (30) each get a prominent guest to chat with them about sports, God and the world.

Rodriguez is the first Swiss football player still active to run his own podcast. Why this sporadic change of sides from interviewee to interviewer? “Because I have the time and desire to do it,” he says. And: “I have known for a long time that there is life after football. It certainly can’t hurt if you use your time and try out what you like or like.”

Schönbächler talks about partying

The first guest in the “Cic-off” is FCZ legend Marco Schönbächler (33), who now plays amateur football at FC Urdorf (2nd division) and runs a padel hall in Rüti ZH together with former FCZ teammate Adrian Winter.

Blick has already listened to the 40-minute podcast. Conclusion: entertaining. Especially when Rodriguez pulls out his “Fifa Games” card from his debut season in 2014 and teases Schönbächler that as a rookie he was rated better than the then FCZ star in the prime of his footballing age. Rodriguez does well by comparing their scores on pace, shots, passes or dribbles. Everywhere he was ranked stronger. “You were faster and could dribble better? That was exactly why I stopped playing Fifa,” says Schönbächler with a laugh, “because of all those blatant mistakes!”

Rodriguez hopes that his guests may also say things in this context that they would not reveal to journalists. It seems to work for Schönbächler. For example, he tells what went through his head during his first training at FC Urdorf after 14 years as an FCZ professional and talks about parties after the European Cup matches.
