What is foreseen will happen now. The Men’s World Ski Championships no longer stop at Lake Louise (Ka). While the Rocky Mountains ski area has already been removed from the women’s calendar for the upcoming season, it’s likely to happen for the men as well.
A downhill and a super-G were planned on November 25 and 26, but due to financial problems of the organizers these can no longer be held. That was already evident last season.
Ski races have been held in Lake Louise since the 1980s. From 1989 women made a trip to Banff National Park, and from 1999 it was a regular event for men. The races traditionally heralded the speed season.
A small glimmer of hope remains, the final decision will be made on Friday. But there are plenty of indications that Marco Odermatt (25) last winter donned a cowboy hat with his win in the Super-G and 3rd in the downhill.
This was traditionally given to the three podium riders. Where the races will take place instead is still open. (bir)
