Author: Dylan Martinez

The South African was unable to compete in various tests due to high estrogen levels

The European Court in Strasbourg ruled this Tuesday in favor of the South African athlete Caster Semenya, who was considered discriminated against as a woman after he was banned from certain women’s competitions by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) due to his very high testosterone levels.

In their ruling, the European judges formally condemned Switzerland, home to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), for refusing arbitration that Semenya had sought so that she would not have to undergo hormone treatment that would reduce her testosterone levels. below the threshold set by the IAAF as a condition for permission to compete
