Adiaratou Iglesias is looking for the world crown in Paris

The athlete from Lugo will start her participation in the World Paralympic Championship tomorrow

Spain to go World Paralympic Championship Paris (July 8-17), just one year before the Games, with a team of 41 athletes (33 athletes plus ten guides), including Adiaratou Iglesias, Yassine Ouhdadi and Gerard Descarrega and their guide Guillermo Rojo, who will try to climb to the top of the podium in their different categories.

On the slopes of Paris’ Charléty Stadium, 1,330 athletes from 107 countries will compete in the biggest event of Paralympic athletics just one year before the Paralympic Games, for which many will be looking for their direct ticket to this championship.

Among the Spanish athletes who will try to shine are Paralympic champions Adiaratou Iglesias (class T13), Yassine Ouhdadi (T13) and the pair of Gerard Descarrega (T11) and his guide Guillermo Rojo, all members of the Spanish Federation of Sports for the Blind (FEDC).

Three other medalists from the national delegation at the last Games also start with podium options: Iván Cano (T13 class), Sara Martínez (T12) and Héctor Cabrera (T12), all of whom are visually impaired.

The complete list of athletes belonging to the federation of the blind consists of long-distance runners Alberto Suárez (T13) and Cristian Benítez (T13), throwers Álvaro del Amo (F11), Kim López and Paula Heras (F12), jumpers Sara Fernández (T12) and Martín Parejo (T11). , sprinters Lia Beel (T11)-Marco Antonio Illescas, Melani Berges (T12)-Sergio Díaz del Campo, Nagore Folgado (T12)-Javier Zaplana, Gara Fuentes (T12)-Jaime del Río and Iván Hernández (T13), and sprinters and jumpers Winsdom Ikhiuwu (T13), Alba García (T11)-Diego Folgado, Joan Munar (T11)-José María Marvizón, Joan Sirera (T13), Eduardo Uceda (T11)- Jorge Gutiérrez and guides Jorge Gras Raúl Gracia del Río.

The Spanish Federation of Sports for People with Physical Disabilities will have four participants: sprinters Sara Andrés (T64) and Alberto Ávila (T64), thrower David Fernández (F57) and jumper Desirée Vila (T63).

The representatives of the Federation of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities are sprinters brothers Deliber and Dionibel Rodríguez (T20), both with experience in games.

Two representatives were also provided by the Spanish Association of Persons with Cerebral Palsy and Acquired Brain Injury with Miriam Martínez (F34 class) and Judith Tortosa (T72 for athletes who train for races with a sports walker).

The competition will consist of 171 disciplines, and in 163 of them, those that are part of the Paralympic program in the individual category, a direct qualification place for Paris 2024 will be awarded to the gold, silver and bronze medal winners, if they finish behind three or more participants. In addition, the fourth-placed will receive a place for their country, which, unlike the previous ones, will not be nominal.

In the last edition, held in Dubai (United Arab Emirates) in 2019, Spain won eight medals and nine places for the Paralympic Games in Tokyo 2020.
