It has been a year since Marcel Hirscher (34) made a major coup with his ski brand Van Deer. The eight-time World Cup winner teamed up with his former sponsor Red Bull and founded Van Deer-Red Bull Sports Equipment GmbH.

A step that should cause a sensation in winter. Because with the collaboration, the red bull was also integrated into the Van Deer logo. Only: this had never been seen in the World Cup. The reason? The logo does not comply with the regulations. According to the FIS, a company that does not manufacture equipment but only uses it for advertising purposes cannot act as a sponsor.

For example, the logo on the skis of brand figurehead Henrik Kristoffersen (29) was always masked. When he wanted to present it to the public for the first time at the end of January at the night giant slalom in Schladming (Austria), the World Ski Association intervened. The FIS informed him in a letter that “if he drives with the logo, he could lose his driver’s license”.

New look from autumn

The Norwegian did not take this risk, he continued to hide the logo under black tape. Now the premiere of the logo could come next season. As Austrian media report, the brand will be given a new name. From next season she will participate in the World Cup under Van Deer Racing. A product line of the same name will also be commercially available.

“All race-ready models are presented in a new look, which signals the connection to racing even more strongly,” the ski brand said in a statement. Whether the adjustments also affect the logo is not discussed.
