Strong waves in Riazor forced the suspension of the first ACT regatta

Benigno Silva, president of the technical committee, explained that holding the regatta, and especially boarding, “would be taking an excessive risk”.

Everything was ready this Saturday at A Coruña so it is ACTboth men’s and women’s leagues, but strong waves on Riazor beach, which is why the testing was stopped.

Benigno Silva, the chairman of the technical board, explained the reasons: «In my opinion, the shipping conditions are very complicated. There is very little time between waves, they have a great height and there is a lot of underwater flow”.

Silva, well known in the Cabo da Cruz rowing club as technical director and coach, commented that the boarding would have to be “done very quickly and that there is practically no time. Celebrate today the regatta and above all the embarkation, it would be too risky. Some of the crew might have an accident. I think it’s best to stop and see if we can continue it tomorrow.

The decision to cancel the inaugural regatta was difficult, and a visibly affected Benigno Silva made it known on the sands of Riazor that safety is our priority. Under these circumstances, risks must be minimized.. It looked a little better from land, but, on the pageWe found it to be very complicated.

Before the announcement, the drawing of streets has already been done. In the Euskotren League, Tirán was supposed to row with Arraun Lagunak, Tolosalde and Donostiarra in the first round, while Cabo da Cruz would start in the second round with Orio, Hondarribia and Hibaiko.

For its part, in the Eusko Label League, Samertolameu would share the first round with Hondarribia, Ondárro and Kaiuki. In the third, Cabo da Cruz was to face Berme, Donostiarra and Santurtzi.
