Mourning in the football world. Ryan Mallett († 35) has died. The former NFL player drowned on Tuesday off the coast of Destin, Florida, the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office reported on Tuesday.
Mallett was said to have been in the water with a group of other people when trouble arose and he went down. Lifeguards were able to bring him ashore, but resuscitation measures were to no avail.
“We extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends and loved ones following his tragic death,” authorities wrote after the accident. NFL superstar Tom Brady, 45, who knew Mallett from their time with the Patriots, writes in his Instagram story. “We have lost a great man. Thank you for everything Rayan.” He will pray for Mallett’s family and loved ones.
Ryan Mallett was selected in the 2011 NFL Draft and has since played alongside the New England Patriots, Houston Texans and Baltimore Ravens. He was always active as a backup quarterback, in 2017 he ended his career. He recently coached a high school team in his native Arkansas. (byl)
