Murat Yakin visiting national team U21: “I very much regret the departure of the cadre”

The coach of the A-Nati has also arrived for the last group match of the Swiss at the U21 European Championship. After a round of padel tennis in Cluj, Murat Yakin (48) attended the last training before the France match on Tuesday evening. And spoke with a look about his trip to Romania.

Murat Yakin, what are you hoping for from your visit to the U21 European Championship?
Murat Yakin: I am here as a guest. For the team and the coaching staff, I am happy that despite the setback against Italy, there is still something at stake against France, and of course I keep my fingers crossed for the quarter-finals.

Yet you follow football matches differently than a fan. What do you focus on?
We have a plan with some players and shared it with them. The players should take advantage of the experience of such a tournament and accelerate.

Do you want to be an extra motivation for the U21 players with your presence? Each of them wants a team for the A-Nati in the future.
First and foremost, I am happy to be able to watch the match against France on the spot. The players are certainly motivated enough to show a good performance. My presence should not affect that.

Which players of the U21 national team have you noticed positively at the European Championship so far?
I don’t want to single out individuals. They work well as a team, working professionally with the staff.

Besides here in training, do you have personal contact with the U21 team?
I have regular contact with coach Patrick Framework. We have been friends for a long time and have a good relationship both professionally and personally.

How is the exchange between the U21 coach and the A-Nati?
Occasionally I am asked for advice. But there is no question of interference, Patrick has total freedom in terms of setup and system. The U21 coach gives the players an ideal platform to prove their qualities and recommend themselves for the first team.

Do you regret Frame’s departure back to club football after the European Championship, to FC Winterthur?
Very, I really appreciated the short cooperation of one year. On the other hand, I can understand if the day-to-day business is tempting. It is a great opportunity for him to pass on his knowledge in the Super League and hopefully also be successful at FC Winterthur.

Will you ever be seen in Super League again?
You ask that at the wrong time. I feel very comfortable with the national team, I have great prospects, great players and an ideal environment here. I don’t waste a single thought on anything else.
