Munitis, the new coach of Lugo

Lugo already has a new coach. The club chaired by Tino Saqués announced this early Wednesday afternoon that Pedro Munitis has been selected to lead the albivermello team at the First RFEF. The Spaniard signs for the next two seasons, and comes to Ángel Carro with the aim of returning Lugo to professional football, which he left this season after eleven years.

The coach of Santander arrives with the sign of an experienced, methodical coach, whose constant and high-quality work marked his profile on the benches. Munitis will be presented this Friday at half past 12 in Ángel Carro.

The arrival of new sporting director David Peláez accelerated efforts to appoint a new coach. What’s more, Peláez made it clear in his presentation that this issue was advanced, and 48 hours later it was already white smoke.

Last Friday’s scare from Íñigo Vélez – signed for Ponferradina -, the last coach Lugo had this season, forced the club presided over by Tino Saqués to explore other options, and the one chosen by David Peláez was that of Pedro Munitis.

The man from Santander is the sixteenth coach in the Tino Saqués era

With the hiring of Pedro Munitis, president Tino Saqués already has sixteen coaches. Until now, Rubén Albés was on the bench of the rojiblanco team for the longest time alongside the current president. The man from Vigo restored the team’s stability, achieving durability in extremis in his first season in Vallecas. And in the second, Lug were more regular and managed to win the advantage.

Other coaches who passed Lugo with Tino Saqués are Luis Milla, José Durán, Luis César Sampedro (2016/2017), Francisco Rodríguez (2017/2018), Javi López, Alberto Monteagudo and Eloy Jiménez (2018/2019), Curro Torres and Juanfran (2019/2020), Mehdi Nafti, Luis César and Rubén Albés (2020/2021). The latter was next, and last Hernán Pérez, Fran Justo, Joan Carrillo and Íñigo Vélez. And now comes Pedro Munitis.
