The 2025 Alpine Ski World Championships in Saalbach-Hinterglemm (Austria) are still a long way off. But Wendy Holdener is already in World Cup fever! The slalom ace recently visited the national football team. “I spoke mainly with Lia Wälti and Ramona Bachmann. I knew her from before. We talked about this and that, with Wälti I was interested in how she was doing.”
The background: Almost five weeks ago, the Arsenal player suffered such a foul that the ligaments and capsule in the ankle were injured. Wälti was on crutches, she is currently on her way back.
“I find it super exciting to talk to other athletes. And since I was training in Magglingen for five weeks, I was happy to take this opportunity,” said the three-time world champion from Unteriberg SZ. One thing is certain: Holdener will keep a close eye on the Nati when they meet their World Cup adventure begins. In New Zealand Dunedin it is serious against the Philippines. “I will definitely watch and keep my fingers crossed for them,” says Holdener.
The two-time slalom winner last winter emphasizes that she would have liked to go out for dinner with the football players. Then she would have had time to talk to other players. “I still know the older team members, but I don’t know every face of the younger ones.”
Holdener will soon return to Magglingen to continue the sweaty summer training. There is a short break before. One thing is certain: the football players will no longer be there – their final sprint for the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand is in full swing.
Holdener contests her first serious fight on October 28 at the Rettenbach Glacier in Sölden.
