Red Bull boss Horner: “We have to be afraid of Ferrari in the rain.” However, sunshine is announced for Sunday and the race.

In the third practice session, when it often rained, the Spaniard Carlos Sainz had another accident with the Ferrari at half-time. “Sorry guys,” Sainz apologized over the radio. In qualifying, Piastri then hit the wall in Q3.

Red Bull boss Horner: “In the rain…”

At breakfast, Red Bull boss Horner told Blick: “We have to be afraid of Ferrari in the rain. When it’s dry, we have to be more careful with Mercedes!” Well, on Saturday it rained almost continuously. But what about Sunday? It should stay dry when the sun shines. Only one thing will hardly change: championship leader Verstappen (53 points ahead of the overwhelmed Pérez) is the favorite and will start from pole. The Mexican drives for the 50th time with teammate Max.

Will Verstappen overtake legend Senna?

And the Dutchman knows that June 18, 2023 can be a historic hour: with his 41st victory he would overtake Ayrton Senna (who passed away in 1994). Only Hamilton (103), Schumi (91), Vettel (53) and Prost (51) have more victories.

Hamilton got a Senna helmet

Montreal once played an emotional role because of the two-time Canadian winner Senna (1988 and 1990). In 2017, Senna’s sister Viviana handed Hamilton a yellow helmet after qualifying: the Mercedes series winner had secured 65th pole position (now 103rd) – as the Brazilian legend once did!

The Canadian GP, held in Montreal since 1978, made history 50 years ago. A safety car (yellow Porsche 914 with Eppie Wietzes) was used for the first time in Mosport near Toronto in 1973.

Today you could almost bet on the dangerous island circuit, even when dry, that there will be retirements, safety car phases and yellow flags. None of this happened in Miami and Barcelona in 2023.
