Pablo Blanco began paying tribute to Reverter and Coleman Author: MIGUEL VILLAR
Something was brewing in his head Pablo Blanco Alonso (Maceda, 1994), when his grandfather Pepe taught him to drive on the family farm when he was only 5 years old. I always wanted the weekend to come so that I could continue studying, recalls today’s fast pilot with bright eyes, who nevertheless got carried away by football in those days and defended the jersey Ourense Sports Club, from pre-Benjamin to the second year of youth. The engine then won the game and there was no going back. Titles such as Volante FGA, Gara N5 or Top Ten Pirelli have brought the man from Ourense to the Spanish championship where he will participate in his most international cup, Peugeot Rally Cup Iberica.
“I remember that my uncle Javier took me to Ourense Rally, 2005, and there I hallucinated with Vallejo and Chelís. I also don’t forget the climb of Chantada where Manolo Senra went very close to the fence and came out with flames in the exhaust. I knew I was attracted to it,” notes Pablo, who, even without a license, was his father’s co-driver whom he convinced to buy the R5 GT Turbo. And from there on, until the unfortunate debut in the Iberian competition: “The results were not good, in the first test we could not even debut, and in the next one we lost two minutes due to a very slow car.” With his inseparable Ian Quintana, he promises war at home: “We will leave in peace if we are able to do our best.” It’s a two-year project and we don’t give up that easily.”
