Big name in the South: Stucki sets the tone for the Diessbachers

The yodel club from the Seeländer municipality of Diessbach BE proves that domestic sounds and the new German hardness are no longer strange. Stephanie Auderset explains on the occasion of the rehearsal why she will not accompany her three colleagues and 20 comrades to the Confederation in Zug this weekend: “I received a ticket for the Rammstein concert in Bern. I just can’t miss it.”

Her colleagues can understand that one of her yodelers would rather rock to the sounds of Rammstein with the controversial frontman Till Lindemann (60) than perform the song Bergwald in the Zug casino. “It’s nice when young people like both traditional and modern music,” says tenor Willi Stucki.

The former wrestler himself has a very big son, who has also been combining the modern with the traditional in recent years: Willi is the “Päpu” of wrestling king Christian Stucki (38).

Timeout due to too much «Gschturm»

The trained locksmith caused a stir as a wrestler. In 1983 and 1986, the 13-time crown winner qualified for the ESAF. After his “bad” career, it wasn’t long before he joined the yodel club Diessbach. However, because this did not happen without disturbing background noise, Stucki Senior took a longer break. “I always went to the club for the pure pleasure of singing, but at some point the ‘Gschturm’ in our club became too big for me. I also wanted to visit Chrigus’ wrestling festivals on the weekends, that’s why I’ve been a long time time no longer active in the yodel club.”

Now that his royal descendant has been permanently attached to his belt after his triumph on the Zeeland, the 66-year-old is passionately throwing himself back into yodelling. Especially since the mood and level under conductor Monika Diethelm-Haldimann in the yodel club Diessbach has improved considerably. With the grade “Good” the Diessbacher have qualified for the federal level in the canton of Bern.

“Chrigu also has a very good voice”

Willi Stucki considers the fact that this singing competition is taking place in Zug a good omen. «In 2019, Chrigu became the wrestler king in Zug. My hope is therefore high that we will now receive the highest award from the jury for our singing contribution at the same place. »

However, the preparations for this big event did not go smoothly for Stucki. “Three weeks ago I had something stuck in my throat and couldn’t make a sound for two days. So I had to sit through two rehearsals.” But in time for the departure to Zug, Stucki’s voice sounds impeccable.

Will King Stucki sing in the choir soon?

“Willi is a good, confident singer,” praises the conductor. Papa Willi is convinced «that Chrigu also has a very good voice. He is an absolute multi-talent.” President Christian Lüdi has long been sticking out his feelers after the retired Überschwinger: “At Königs’ reception four years ago, I asked Chrigu if he would come to the yodel club after his Schwinger career. He assured me that At least yodeling wasn’t the last thing on his mind…”
