Fabian Rieders (21) was peppered with highlights last year: the World Cup selection by national coach Murat Yakin, the A debut in the opening game against Cameroon and then the basic premiere against Brazil. At YB he is a regular and wins the double with the Berner.
‘A very decent young man. Still, he has a good cheek. Over the course of the season, Fabian became the heart of our team in the middle of the field, sets the pace, “says Christoph Spycher about his golden boy in the “Sports Panorama” on SRF. Spycher even believes that his protégé is capable of wear the captain’s armband of the national team – in a few years.
The Bundesliga is Rieder’s dream, the transfer expected this summer will pour millions into the YB coffers.
Rieder had exactly four days of vacation since the cup win against Lugano (3:2). Then we went to the U21 to prepare for the European Championship in Romania (June 21 to July 8). In the “Sports panorama” he shows how he spent the days off.
“I’m not the type who has to go somewhere unnecessarily during these four days of vacation. I think you can also enjoy the days in Switzerland,” says Rieder. And he did, sitting in the stands at his youth club FC Solothurn and watching a promotion match in the Promotion League Swiss province instead of Dubai, where many other footballers now like to spend their holidays.
The young Nati has close ties with FC Solothurn: “FC Solothurn means a lot to me. I switched there when I was ten and spent a lot of time there (until U15, editor’s note), found many colleagues and even in difficult times many people supported me there.”
Rieder then admits that he went abroad for two days: “To be honest, I was in Milan with my girlfriend for two more days. But that is also close by, you can get there by train in three hours.”
Fabian Rieder certainly deserves the short break. Now it’s off to the Zillertal in Tyrol for the U21 national team. (jsl)
