These stars are ending their careers: will a 100 million man go after Ibrahimovic?

Zlatan Ibrahimovic announced his retirement from professional football on Monday.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic (41) ended his glorious career last Monday. The Swede is not alone in hanging up his boots. Several icons and club legends have drawn a line in recent days. This circle could see prominent growth in the coming days.

End of career after termination of contract?

He has been called the worst transfer flop in Real Madrid’s history. Eden Hazard (32). Numerous injuries slowed down the 32-year-old’s career. During his time at Chelsea, the attacking player was one of the best players in the world, able to decide games or even win titles on his own. The “Galactic” paid 100 million euros for Hazard in 2019.

Madrid announced on Saturday that the contract, which runs until 2024, will be dissolved. The second most expensive Real transfer leaves Madrid without a farewell ceremony. Where are the Belgians going? Hazard’s future remains open, according to various reports, there is even a career end in the room – at just 32 years old.

Andrés Iniesta (39) has also prematurely terminated his contract with Vissel Kobe in Japan. The world and European champions do not want to stop yet, but did not get much playing time in Japan. What will happen next is unknown.

While Hazard and Iniesta are still looking for clubs, several top stars have already decided to retire this summer.

Hector and Petersen say their goodbyes

The Bundesliga loses two figureheads: Jonas Hector (33) and Nils Petersen (34). “Nur der FC” could be Hector’s biography, if the media-shy defender ever wrote one. The Cologne legend spends his entire professional career (295 appearances) in North Rhine-Westphalia and immortalized himself several times in “Kölle” with his loyalty.

Best joker in Bundesliga history, Freiburg’s record goalscorer. This is Nils Petersen. The striker came over from Bremen to Breisgau in 2015 and stayed in the Black Forest until the end of his career. In the process, Petersen developed into a crowd favorite and sometimes offended with his reflective statements about professional football.

From football star to TV star

Joaquin (41) played a total of 14 years for his youth club Betis Sevilla. No wonder people in Andalusia revere the primary rock. Joaquin became an icon in Spain with his cheeky disposition off the pitch and with 622 LaLiga appearances (league record). A quiet life after career? Not an option for the Spaniard. With “El Novato” (engl. the newcomer) Joaquin already has his own TV series, and at some point he also wants to become president of Betis.

Former Napoli midfielder says Ciao

Slovak record nationalist Marek Hamsik (35) has also announced the end of his career. The midfielder played for Napoli for twelve years before moving to Trabzonspor in Turkey via China and Sweden. “I lived my dream,” Hamsik said of his career.

Hamsik recently congratulated his former teammate Blerim Dzemaili on his dismissal. From 2011 to 2014, they played together in Napoli’s midfield. (jsl)
