Amount doubled since promotion

As the “kicker” calculated, fourth place last season washed a considerable chunk onto the club’s bill. The German football association DFL will pay 1.3 billion euros in TV money to the 36 professional clubs next season. About a billion of that goes to the 18 clubs in the 1st Bundesliga.

A big winner is Union Berlin. Was it 54.9 million euros last season, then it is now 11.1 million more in one fell swoop. In comparison, when you played as a promoted player in the 2019/20 season, there was “only” about 29.4 million in TV money. The amount has more than doubled.

Prize for the Champions League

In addition, there is 15.6 million euros from UEFA for participation in the royal class. All in all, this means an extra income of no less than EUR 26.7 million for the Union. There are also bonuses for successful performance in the premier class.

A significant increase for a club that is very close to its fans. Ten years ago they volunteered to help with the renovation of the An der Alten Försterei stadium. It is not clear whether the national anthem of the Champions League will be played there. The stadium may not meet the technical requirements.
