It was quiet around the coronavirus for a long time – now the subject is back on the political agenda: on June 18, Switzerland will vote for the third time on the Covid law.
Nicolas Rimoldi (28), chairman of the organization “Mass-voll”, which is critical of measures and collected signatures for the referendum, is jointly responsible for the new elections. He is already serious: in Blick’s ‘vote fight’ he crosses supporter Peter Metzinger (58) on Wednesday evening. He is a member of the social yes committee for the Covid law.
Rimoldi believes it is unnecessary to extend individual provisions of the law until 2024 – and fears further division in society if the vote is yes. Meanwhile, the committee to which Metzinger belongs appeals to reason. Should a dangerous variant of the virus emerge again, Switzerland must be prepared and be able to take measures quickly.
For example, the provisions stipulate that Switzerland may again issue Covid certificates for international travel if necessary. Or the authorities could order home office again.
Tonight at 6 p.m., the two politically engaged citizens will meet for a political duel. Metzinger and Rimoldi each have exactly seven minutes to convince the audience of their point of view. Anyone who gets more votes on the next ballot wins a free ad for the committee. The winner will be announced on Thursday evening. (lha)
