Wolf wants to clear the initiative for launch

The wolf protection must fall. Collecting signatures for an initiative to end wolf protection began on Tuesday. According to the will of the promoters, it should be possible to hunt the wolf all year round, except in the national park.

The initiative committee stated on Tuesday that the number of wolves has increased fivefold in the past five years. The damage caused by wolves is constantly increasing and species-specific livestock farming on pastures and in open stables is becoming increasingly difficult.

Livelihoods are in danger. There would also be other dangers to people, livestock and pets. A “defensive shot” to protect pets and livestock should go unpunished. Last but not least, the wolf population questions the recreational opportunities in nature.

Only protected in the national park

The initiative “To protect people, pets and livestock from wolves” wants a new paragraph in Article 79 of the federal constitution. This regulates federal powers for hunting and fishing.

The new paragraph 79a means that the wolf is only protected in the Swiss National Park in the Engadine and that the wolf can be hunted anywhere throughout the year.

The deadline for collecting the 100,000 signatures needed for the referendum is November 2, 2024. (SDA)
