Switzerland continues to support Ukraine with relief supplies. The Swiss embassy in Kiev handed over five used ambulance vehicles to local NGOs on Thursday. The vehicles, worth CHF 750,000, were financed and donated by the cantons of Basel-Stadt and Zurich.
On Wednesday it was already announced that Switzerland would support Ukraine with another CHF 1.5 billion for the years 2025 to 2028. In addition to the security of such funds for reconstruction, immediate assistance such as ambulance vehicles is of great importance. Because many hospitals and health facilities were destroyed or damaged.
The used ambulances were purchased in Switzerland and the Netherlands and delivered to Ukraine by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). There they received the local NGO “Smarta” together with Caritas Ukraine on Thursday.
However, the vehicles will soon leave Kiev for the front. They are to be deployed in the Kharkiv region and in the city of Kramatorsk and save lives there.

The big problem there is the reconstruction of Ukraine. “The World Bank must make an effort comparable to the creation of the bank after World War II,” said the US Secretary of State.
Three more firefighting vehicles will be delivered to Ukraine in the coming weeks. The Ministry of Defence, Civil Protection and Sports supplies these together with five tons of fire-fighting foam to the Ukrainian rescue service.
The delivery is complemented by a week-long training by Swiss experts on site. The fire engines have already been used and are still worth CHF 180,000 each – they cost over a million new. (sq)
