In addition, imported plant foods must be declared if they have been treated with pesticides that are considered particularly dangerous internationally.
The Federal Council thereby implements a motion of the Science Committee of the State Council. The declaration obligations are planned in three areas: First, for animal products such as frog legs, which are produced while the animals are in pain. Second, for foie gras from ducks and geese, and third, for plant-based foods from countries that use hazardous chemicals in crop production.
The Federal Council also wants to investigate an import ban on fur and fur products produced with animal cruelty. He has instructed the Home Affairs Department to draw up a consultation draft on the declaration obligations by the end of March 2024 at the latest.
