Federal Council waives urgent gas supply law

The Bundesrat wants to continue to regulate measures to prevent a gas bottleneck in an ordinance and not in an urgent federal law. (theme image)

In December it was even different: the Bundesrat was working on an emergency law to prevent a gas bottleneck in the winter of 2023/2024, it was said at the time. The plan was for the provisions to apply from 1 July 2023.

On Wednesday, the Bundesrat withdrew: the advantages and disadvantages of urgent legislation and a further extension of the existing ordinance were weighed against each other. It showed that “an extension of the scheme, if the supply situation indicates this, is more efficient and more economical”.

At the end of April 2023, the Federal Council says it will lay down the new requirements for the ordinary Gas Supply Act to be drawn up. The scheme applies until the end of September 2024.
