On Thursday, the Grand Chamber approved a loan application from the Federal Council for one-off major sporting events for the years 2025 to 2029, totaling CHF 28.65 million. Part of this would benefit the 2027 World Ski Championships in Valais.

However, the Council also approved CHF 5 million per year for recurring major events with international appeal. This money should go to the Ski World Cup races in Wengen BE, Adelboden BE and St. Moritz GR. That amounts to a total of CHF 25 million for the years 2025 to 2029.

The Grand Chamber intends to provide an additional CHF 18 million for financing measures in the slipstream of a major event. The deal still has to go to the Council of States.
