Holidays are twice as expensive this year

According to the Comparis consumer price index, which shows the price development in regularly consumed goods, the price increase in daily consumption goods increased by 3.9 percent in February compared to the same month of the previous year. Compared to January 2023, the figures increased by 1.3 percent.

Inflation based on the BFS calculation or the national consumer price index (LIK) was only 3.4 percent in February and therefore much lower.

Comparis explained that airline tickets, travel and especially hotels are the drivers of “perceived” inflation. Overnight, flight and package tour costs increased by 46 percent compared to the previous year. “Continued effects such as higher demand and higher energy prices are responsible for this price increase,” says Comparis finance expert Michael Kuhn.
