Katrin Alder (53, FDP) will be the new government councilor of Ausserrhoden. The 53-year-old was chosen with the second-best result. The previous Alfred Stricker (independent of the party), Dölf Biasotto (FDP), Yves Noël Balmer (SP) and Hansueli Reutegger (SVP) were confirmed in office.
Stricker received 9,242 votes as leader, followed by newly elected Katrin Alder with 9,217 votes. Reutegger received 9059, Biasotto 8882 and Balmer 8827 votes. Turnout was 26.3 percent.
Alder replaces Paul Signer (FDP), who is retiring due to old age, in the government. She was the only candidate and received the support of all parties.
With their election, the women are again represented with a seat in Ausserrhoden’s five-member government. Katrin Alder lives in Herisau and has been a member of the cantonal council since 2013, of which she chaired in 2019/2020. The management consultant launched her political career from 1997 to 2007 in the municipal council of Herisau.
Health director Yves Noël Balmer (SP) was elected as the new Landammann (government chairman). He received 7,583 votes, with a turnout of 24.5 percent. The Landammann is elected to Ausserrhoden for a term of two years from the middle of the reign. Balmer replaces Dölf Biasotto as Landammann. (SDA)
