Each year, OFCOM is notified of 10 to 15 photovoltaic systems interfering with radio traffic, a spokesman for the authority told Keystone-SDA news agency on request on Tuesday. The number of incidents has remained about the same over the past three years. However, it is not known how high the number of unreported cases is.

No closures have been ordered so far. All incidents could therefore be solved by technical recovery measures. Usually amateur radio operators report the disturbances.

To improve power generation in photovoltaic systems, some manufacturers recommend equipping the solar cells with small additional modules that optimize the power generation of each individual cell. These so-called optimizers or the transmitted waves can, among other things, significantly impede telecommunication traffic in the short-wave range.
