The organizations wrote in a joint statement that short-term measures are urgently needed to improve the working conditions of nurses and doctors. It is important to secure the remaining personnel.
The reason was given that an increase in the number of hospital admissions related to Covid-19 was expected. At the same time, hospitals are faced with a major staff shortage. By mid-October, 123 certified intensive care beds in 30 hospitals were no longer operated on.
Wearing a mask and vaccination is recommended
The population called on the three organizations to observe the well-known hygiene measures against the spread of the coronavirus in order to prevent possible overload in hospitals and intensive care units.
Vaccination can reduce the risk of serious Covid 19 disease, emphasized the Swiss Society for Intensive Care Medicine (SGI), the Association of Swiss Doctors (FMH) and the Hospital Association H+. A second booster vaccination should therefore be made possible for everyone over the age of 16, but especially for people and health professionals who are at particular risk.
The three organizations also strongly supported the federal government’s recommendation to at-risk individuals and health professionals to be vaccinated against flu. Because even with the flu, more serious illnesses can be expected in the autumn and winter. (SDA)
