Red Bull Racing fined $7 million, world title not in jeopardy

Red Bull Racing fined $7 million for exceeding budget limit In addition, the team of reigning world champion Max Verstappen gets 10 percent less time to develop the car. This is announced by the international motorsport association FIA.

According to the FIA, there is “no evidence that Red Bull acted in bad faith, dishonestly or fraudulently. In addition, no information was intentionally withheld from the finance department,” the motorsport association said in a statement.

Red Bull Racing only managed a small overflow

“The new financial order is very complex and teams had to conform to it for the first time. Red Bull Racing was found to have committed a violation, but the Treasury Department acknowledged that Red Bull Racing acted cooperatively during the assessment process and attempted to provide additional information and evidence in a timely manner upon request.”

Verstappen’s team spent more money than allowed to build and develop the car last year. According to the FIA, it was a minor breach of the $145 million cost cap. Overall, according to the association, this would be a deductible of 1.6 percent or just over 2 million euros.

Since a “slight excess” was found at Red Bull, the association could not punish too harshly. The association can only deduct World Cup points if the cost limit is “considerably exceeded”. Verstappen’s world title, which he won last year at the last race of the season in Abu Dhabi, was not in danger.

press conference

Red Bull accepted the penalty. Talks between the team and the FIA were suspended during last weekend’s United States Grand Prix following the death of Red Bull owner Dieter Mateschitz.

This weekend is the Mexican Grand Prix. Verstappen is already sure of the world title and Red Bull can no longer be traced back to the constructors. Red Bull are organizing a press conference on Friday to make a statement.
