“Earth Hour” in Switzerland: Dozens of communities turn off the lights

class=”sc-cffd1e67-0 iQNQmc”>

In Switzerland, more than 25 communities participated, according to nature conservation organization WWF Switzerland. This also included the cities of Basel, Bern, Geneva, St. Gallen, Schaffhausen, Freiburg, Delsberg and Locarno TI. Landmarks in these cities were in darkness between 8:30 PM and 9:30 PM.

Companies and private individuals also took part in the campaign. On the Paradeplatz in Zurich, the lights of the major bank UBS remained off for an hour.

The ‘Earth Hour’ is an impressive sign of solidarity, according to WWF Switzerland. By 2023, average air and ocean temperatures will be higher than ever before. Effective measures to reduce environmental pollution include switching to public transport, traveling closer to home instead of far away, switching from oil heating to heat pumps or consuming less meat.

Earth Hour was launched in 2007 by WWF Australia. According to WWF, it is the largest global climate and environmental protection campaign, involving millions of people around the world. (SDA)
