The federal government wants to increase vaccinations. In the new Epidemics Act – a Lex Corona – he proposes more vaccination support and improved vaccination monitoring. “Vaccination is one of the most effective and cost-effective medical measures,” explains the Federal Office of Public Health (BAG).

Although vaccination rates for some diseases are very high, the federal government still sees the need for action. “There are still gaps, especially when it comes to vaccinating adults, especially young adults,” the BAG says.

They should therefore be able to benefit more easily from vaccination advice, have their vaccination status checked and supplement it if necessary. In addition, vaccination offers must be quickly available when there is a particular threat to public health – such as during the corona pandemic.

Mandatory vaccinations remain in force

While the federal government wants to promote voluntary vaccinations with accessible offers, everything remains the same when it comes to mandatory vaccinations. As is the case today, the Federal Council can make vaccinations of vulnerable population groups mandatory. The same applies to certain professional groups, such as health professionals.

This does not mean that those affected will be forced to be vaccinated. But anyone who renounces this will only have to expect restrictions – up to and including the loss of a job, as became apparent in the army during the corona pandemic.

SVP wants to abolish the obligation

This is a thorn in the side of the SVP. She therefore wants to completely ban mandatory vaccination from the new law. “We demand that the parameters for mandatory vaccination, which have not been affected in the current partial revision, are deleted from the Epidemics Act,” the party wrote in its response to the consultation. “There should be no compulsory vaccination.”

She also emphasizes that “in the future, unvaccinated people should no longer be treated differently than vaccinated people.” The Federal Council must take protective measures against discrimination against unvaccinated people. The vaccination strategy against Covid-19 must also be completely revised.

The SVP also rejects the law on other points. She is bothered by the fact that certain rights were restricted during the corona pandemic. “Because these rights are not protected, the law opens the door to abuse,” warns SVP national councilor Rémy Wyssmann (56, SO). The Federal Council must revise the model. The SVP rejects the current design.

Mass-Voll announces referendum

The Corona-skeptical movement Mass-Voll has already taken a step further. She is already announcing the referendum. Because: “The new epidemic law threatens a frontal attack on fundamental rights.” The consultation on the Epidemics Act will last until March 22.
