Changes in various laws: Council of States wants to protect married minors better and for longer

class=”sc-cffd1e67-0 iQNQmc”>

In the future, a court should be able to declare a marriage invalid up to the age of 25 for a spouse who married underage, and not just up to the age of 18. (archive image)

After the decision was made, the Council of States began detailed discussion of the proposal, which will later go to the National Council. One of the most important points of the proposal is that in the future a court should be able to declare marriages invalid for a minor married spouse up to the age of 25.

Nowadays this is not possible if the minor married person has reached the age of 18 and has therefore become an adult.

A second important point of the proposal is that marriages among minors in Switzerland should in the future be ineffective if one of the spouses lived in Switzerland at the time of the marriage. This scheme is mainly aimed at preventing so-called summer holiday marriages.
