Incident at Birr AG: Cable fire interrupts the connection to the backup power plant

class=”sc-cffd1e67-0 iQNQmc”>

The connection to the Birr backup power plant on the General Electric (GE) site in Birr AG is interrupted after a cable fire.

The grid connection to the Birr backup power plant was interrupted due to a fire in a so-called cable termination, Swissgrid announced on Wednesday. Repair work started immediately to reconnect the affected 220 kV line from the Birr substation to the Birr reserve power station to the grid as quickly as possible.

The fire had no impact on the high-voltage network, Swissgrid writes. Security of supply is guaranteed.

Because the substation site is located next to a groundwater protection area, measures have been taken together with the cantonal environmental authorities and the well master of the municipality of Birr to ensure soil and water quality. (SDA)
