This would be a sign of appreciation, he argued. It is not about compensation, but about motivation not to outsource care for surviving relatives.

However, the government council does not believe in this idea, according to the answer published on Thursday. A deduction for care would privilege care over other forms of volunteer work, he explained. People who have relatives cared for outside the home and finance these costs would be disadvantaged.

The government council also emphasized that taxes primarily serve to finance the government budget. Contrary to popular belief in politics, it is generally not possible to implement targeted social and social policy through tax measures.
