Barely in office, already in the crossfire: the winemaker Lionel Dugerdil, who was appointed president of the SVP section of Geneva just a few weeks ago, is already coming under heavy criticism. Namely from their own party members – due to legal problems and a lack of transparency.
What happened? Geneva’s new SVP president has had several run-ins with the law in the past. “We have a bully at the top of the party in Geneva. “So we become the laughing stock of all of Switzerland,” complains an SVP member from Geneva, who wishes to remain anonymous.
In 2020, he beat a burglar who was brought to him by the police. She left the man alone in a shed with Dugerdil instead of taking him straight to the station. Just five days later, Dugerdil beat one of his neighbors bloody with a pitchfork.
The winemaker’s criminal record is already quite full, Blick knows. In the past he was found guilty of simple bodily harm and minor damage to property and sentenced to a suspended sentence. In addition, there are refusals to obey orders, which fall under military criminal law. The case surrounding the pitchfork attack is still pending.
Only: Dugerdil would never have provided transparent information about his sin register, as his party members now accuse him. During a video conference on January 17 this year, initiated by the vice-president of the SVP Geneva, Céline Amaudruz (44), Dugerdil was charged with lying about his criminal record and for his threatening behavior. The discussions during the internal meeting focused on dealing with the ‘crisis situation’ surrounding Dugerdil’s conviction.
Apparently this fueled Dugerdil’s mood. In the video call, he allegedly verbally attacked Amaudruz. She then wrote in an email that she wanted nothing to do with Dugerdil in the future.
The meeting also aimed to review the guidelines for future board candidates. Several SVP Geneva party members are calling for an ethics committee to assess future candidates. So that there will never be another “Dugerdil case”.
