Shortly before the vote: the Zurich government brushes aside opponents of the expansion of the slopes

Zurich Airport wants to extend runway 28 by 400 meters to the west and runway 32 by 280 meters to the north. However, left-green parties and opponents of aircraft noise have called for a referendum.

For the Zurich government there is no violation of freedom of voting. She rejected the referendum committee’s “No to the expansion of the slopes” and rejected her objection to the design of the voting newspaper on Thursday.

The voting newspaper will not be reprinted. The State Chancellery had previously extended the deadline for the No Commission several times so that it could revise the text and images. Yet there was “no agreement”.

Images are said to contain untrue statements

The problem in particular was that the submitted graphs contained untrue statements from the government’s perspective. These images were ultimately not included in the voting newspaper.

There were also differences in the text. According to the government council, a final version of the no committee ultimately reached the state chancellery too late.

The no-committee criticized the fact that the government council had “changed and shortened” the arguments against expanding the slopes without consultation. With the complaint, the committee demanded that the newspaper be changed and reprinted.

Opponents of the slopes can make a judgement

Last week, the government council had already rejected a request from opponents of the slopes for precautionary measures. They wanted to ensure that the distribution of the voting newspaper was stopped immediately. However, the documents had already been printed and delivered to the communities and logistics partners.

The request went too far for the government council, because reporting on all voting proposals would have been influenced by a stop. On March 3, voters will decide not only on the extension of the runway at Zurich airport, but also on the banking initiative for a lakeside path, the anti-chaotic initiative and a constitutional amendment.

However, opponents of the ramps can still appeal the ruling council’s decision to the administrative court. (SDA)
