Doctor Natalie Urwyler, here with the Prix Courage, which she received in 2018, has successfully filed a lawsuit for promotion discrimination. (Archive)

The doctor faced financial consequences and gender discrimination when receiving payments from a private medical pool. The court ruled that the same applies to the progress of her career.

Equality expert and lawyer Zita Küng praised the verdict before the media in Bern on Wednesday as new legal territory for Switzerland. In the future, companies will have to make understandable and non-discriminatory decisions on pay and promotion issues.

Yvonne Schärli, former chair of the Federal Commission for Women’s Affairs, was also happy with the verdict. This will have an impact.
