Wind energy: Two wind energy initiatives demand public participation and forest protection

class=”sc-cffd1e67-0 iQNQmc”>

The Swiss Free Landscape Association wants to impose restrictions on the construction of wind turbines with two popular initiatives. (subject image)

The Swiss Free Landscape Association presented the initiatives to the media in Bern on Monday. The association writes that the requests are supported by community representatives, members of cantonal parliaments, scientists, conservationists, lawyers and monument conservators.

The forest protection initiative requires that wind energy systems may only be planned and built outside forests and woodland meadows. The initiators write that forests are not only vital for biodiversity, but also for people.

The community protection initiative aims to safeguard the democratic rights of the population of communities in whose vicinity wind turbines are planned. Wind turbines are said to have an impact on the landscape and people’s daily lives.
